How Can You Help Support The Calais Foundation?
Making a Difference…
The Calais Foundation, A Non-Profit Corporation, is a 501(c)(3) supported by private contributions from individuals, matching gifts, memorial and tribute gifts, businesses large and small, church and community service organizations, corporations, and foundations. Along with our supporting partners, the Foundation makes a difference one child at a time by giving hope and meaning to a child’s life. It is this commitment to the individual, sometimes expressed through group programs, that increases the impact of your gift to The Calais Foundation over one to a larger, less personal philanthropy.
Children with special learning needs often find that doors of opportunity open to other children are closed to them. The resultant frustration and anger of being different often lingers for a lifetime with adverse results affecting individuals, families, and society as a whole.
The Calais Foundation is there to help. It opens doors to discovery, learning and fulfillment. Its mission is to help children with serious learning and behavioral problems overcome their disabilities so that they can lead responsible, productive lives and attain their fullest potential as contributors to their families, future employers and society. The Foundation accomplishes this mission through its support of The Calais School in Whippany, NJ, and other non-profit entities throughout northern New Jersey that serve these children, their families, and the professional community through educational programs and support services.
If you are passionate...about the education of children with learning disabilities and want to make a difference, we encourage you to join in this effort and become a partner in the Foundation as an active volunteer and donor. One way or the other, you can make a difference in a child’s life and help them grow into a happy, mature, responsible, and caring individual.
There are many ways to make an impact:
- Cash Contributions;
- Volunteer your time;
- Memorial and Tribute Gifts;
- Bequests.
Cash Contributions:
Writing a check is the time-honored and most straightforward way of making a gift. Such gifts entitle you to an income tax charitable contribution deduction up to the maximum allowed by law at the time of the gift.
Most gifts are sent by check through the mail. However, for your convenience you can make your gift by phone with a credit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express cards. For all contributions, whether by check or credit card, you will receive a letter of appreciation noting the amount and date of your gift which you may wish to use for tax purposes.
Checks:
Make a gift by sending a personal check or money order payable to The Calais Foundation.

Volunteer Your Time:
Your time is valuable to us and we need your help! The Renaissance Gala is a volunteer initiated and executed event that creates friends and raises funds for children with learning disabilities. This fun October evening includes dinner, a silent auction and entertainment. You can become a volunteer for the Gala, or may wish to volunteer your services directly with The Calais School, SummerFest, or another special program. Simply give Jack Clark a call for a visit and tour at 973-884-2030, ext 212.
Tribute and Memorial Gifts:
There are times when words just aren’t enough to express your appreciation for a loved one or friend or in honor of someone for an extraordinary effort or special occasion. A contribution in honor of a particular event in someone’s life…a birthday, anniversary, holiday, or a job well done…or in memory of someone special, can show how much you appreciate an individual while, at the same time, making a difference in a young person’s life.
Tribute and Memorial Contributions can be made the same way as described above under ‘Cash Contributions’ When such contributions are made, a letter of appreciation is sent by the Foundation to the person being honored or the family of the person being remembered. No dollar amount is provided in such letters. Of course, you, the donor, will also receive a letter of appreciation. Your letter will note the amount and date of your gift which you may wish to use for tax purposes.
Bequests
A bequest to The Calais Foundation, A Non-Profit Corporation (the exact legal name) can be made through your will and can result in tax savings for your estate and heirs. You may designate a specific gift, a percentage of your assets or the remainder of the estate following the distribution of specified assets.
Tangible personal property, such as works of art, book collections, and similar items that are utilized in keeping with the Foundation’s tax-exempt purposes, can also be deductible as gifts. Special rules apply to tangible personal property that is not used for the Foundation’s educational purposes. The Foundation would like to discuss any such consideration with you as you are planning your estate so that it can ensure the appropriate use of your gift, the fulfillment of your wishes, and the greatest tax advantage to your estate.
Remember to consult an attorney in all matters relating to your estate planning.
Thank You For Your Consideration!
